1 in 5 Brits believe in the healing power of crystals

For many years, people have had an interest in crystals and gemstones and believed they harness their powers for good. Whether it’s to help you get a better night’s sleep or mental clarity, or to banish negative energy from your aura, many people believe using or wearing crystals can have a positive impact on their lives.

What are crystals?

Crystals are a solid material in which the molecules are arranged in such a way that it creates a geometric pattern formation and has a surface that reflects the internal symmetry found within. A wide range of elements such as salt and sugar can be considered crystals.

Gemstones on the other hand are crystals that are made of rare minerals of the highest quality. Gemstones are usually cut or polished to be used to make jewellery and other accessories. Due to their pure quality, gemstones are often more highly-priced than crystals.

The rise of crystal interest

A recent study by F. Hinds highlights that data from TikTok shows there have been 19.2 billion hashtag views for #crystals and 1.6 billion hashtag views for #gemstones on the social media platform, and the same hashtags have gained momentum on Instagram too, with over 40 million posts featuring the same hashtags to date. In the last three months alone, there have been 80 million #crystal TikTok post views in the UK, and it only appears to be gaining further momentum.

The internet is awash with a whole host of celebrities and influencers sharing their love for crystals and the powers they believe they contain. The rise in sales for coloured crystals and gemstones could be heavily influenced by celebrities such as Adele, Victoria Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow sharing their adoration for crystals and their motivations for wearing or using them.

The healing benefits of crystals

A survey conducted by F. Hinds consulted 2,000 adults in the UK about their thoughts on crystals and gemstones and their beliefs about their potential powers. The findings revealed that 38% of Brits use or wear gemstones on a regular basis, while 21% firmly believe crystals and gemstones have healing powers.

Furthermore, 53% of people in the survey acknowledged they are open to the suggestion that using or wearing crystals can improve their health and well-being, with the most common reasons for wearing them to enhance relaxation and to shield them from physical and emotional negativity.

Which gemstones and crystals do we love the most?

According to the findings from the F.Hinds survey, the most popular gemstone among Brits is Amethyst, which ranges in hues from purple to lavender, followed by Diamond, which are most commonly used in pieces of jewellery such as diamond earrings and necklaces. Some of the other most-loved gemstones in Britain are Emerald, Sapphire, Jade and Ruby.
