Affordable luxury at trendy citizenM Shoreditch

Since September 2016, the ultra-stylish citizenM Shoreditch has been operating in the heart of the area and has remained a welcome addition to one of London’s most creative communities, contributing to the transformation of an underdeveloped area into a popular and fashionable district.

Style

The Shoreditch hotel is the third citizenM to open in London, following fast on the opening of Tower of London in July. With 216 rooms and located just a short walk from Shoreditch High Street station, the hotel sits at the heart of a new development of retail, workspaces and apartments. As with all its properties, citizenM has worked with design and architecture practice concrete to create the distinctive look for Shoreditch with contemporary design features throughout the hotel. Welcoming communal rooms, innovative technology and inspiring art are all on offer for an extremely affordable rate.

The entrance to citizenM Shoreditch is characterised by a colourful abstract artwork by AVAF, an international collective of artists based in New York and Paris. Entering the hotel, you’ll be met with the distinctive citizenM spiral staircase that leads up to the first floor and the living and working spaces where mobile citizens can meet, work, eat and socialise. Guests can check in and out at the online terminals, enjoy free wifi offered by the hotel and discover canteenM – the 24-hour café and bar that provides freshly baked croissants in the morning and salads, sushi and sandwiches throughout the day, as well as a hot dinner in the evening. The friendly citizenM ambassadors are also there to assist with just about anything from checking in to making the perfect cocktail.

Top of the line Vitra furniture features throughout the space with a selection of iconic chairs, sofas and tables from such designers as Verner Panton, Jean Prouvéand Charles & Ray Eames. Large communal tables encourage interaction between guests while the hotel provides free use of MACs for those needing to work, or simply surf the net. From the balcony is a great view of one of Shoreditch’s more playful features –four brightly graffitied tube trains that are a symbol of the area’s reputation for street art.

Rooms

The citzenM guest rooms are the apex of stylish comfort, featuring super kingsize beds with custom-made mattresses, wall-to-wall windows, power rain showers and custom bath products. All rooms have a flat screen television and a tablet mood pad, which controls almost every function in the room; from the ambient lighting and curtains, to the heating, television and music. Guests can connect their own devices to it, allowing them to stream their own content such as films and music, to the large flat screen television, ensuring that they feel fully at home.

With a view to making life as easy as possible for guests, citizenM has even equipped every room with a small desk with sockets to suit the origin of any plug. In line with citizenM’s commitment to contemporary art, each room also has two artworks specially selected by Amsterdam-based gallery, The Public House of Art.

Fashion

Founded by Rattan Chadha, the founder and former CEO of the fashion brand Mexx, citizenM opened its first hotel at Schiphol Airport in 2008, followed by Amsterdam City in 2009, citizenM Glasgow in 2010 and citizenM London Bankside in 2012.

Rotterdam, New York and Paris all opened in 2014 and citizenM’s flagship hotel, Tower of London, opened in July 2016.

The citizenM concept is based on offering ‘affordable luxury for the people’, in which guests can enjoy all the luxuries they would expect from a 5* hotel – but without any hidden or unnecessary costs.
