Get a taste of the Argentine way of life through Moo Cantina

Steak lovers, listen up: I’ve discovered a place that I think you’ll really like. Moo Cantina Pimlico, a relaxed gastro pub in South West London, is a space that truly embodies the ethos ‘quincho’; an outdoor space within Argentinian homes where friends and family gather around the charcoal grill to share the best meats and red wines that South American culture has to offer.

The menu here is based on authentic Argentinian dishes, using simple but high quality products, ethically raised, grass-fed Black Angus Cattle sourced in the Argentinian Pampas for the rare meats, and has been headed up by Argentinian native and Moo Cantina Pimlico founder, Hernan Palacios. In other words – the meat here is bloody good!

The gracious and welcoming nature of Argentinian culture is something the entire team pride themselves on and is reflected by the down-to-earth interiors offering a humble abode for guests to settle into for long brunches, lunches, and cocktails alike, and the dedicated, top-quality service of the staff. For those special occasions, the Moo Cantina staff will light up the open-fire charcoal grill on the outdoor terrace – the flaming heart of the venue – as guests gather around to sit and keep warm during the winter months as they watch the chefs get to work.

Take it from me that the ribeye cut is a thing of real beauty. Its rich marbling of fat throughout the steak provides loads of flavour and succulence that’s perfectly paired with hand cut triple cooked chips.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Before you crack on with the mains, make sure you treat yourself to starters because they’re amazing too. The chargrilled chorizo with black pudding and charcoal sourdough is excellent. It’s meaty, packed with flavour and a really impressive way to ramp up the excitement levels for your mains. I’d also strongly recommend the savoury selection of home-made empanadas. They’re famous here and come with a great sriracha aioli; choose from beef, ham and cheese, sweetcorn or spinach.

To wash down your fantastic food, you need equally good drinks right? Moo Cantina Pimlico’s cocktails list has been put together by one of the world’s top 100 mixologists, Seba Garcia, and features Argentinian passion and flavours. For traditionalists, there is an extensive and evolving South American wine list that can be perfectly paired with your selection of dishes. Get the staff to make a recommendation and be amazed as they expertly decant the bottle into a glass carafe to allow the wine to breathe. These guys know what they’re doing here.

Moo Cantina seats 180 guests within the fully heated, sheltered beer garden and another 100 indoors. Happy Hour is available Tuesday to Friday between 4pm and 6.30pm with cocktails starting at £6.50 and bottomless brunch is available on weekends for £49.50 and includes bottomless rump steak, Moo nachos, hand-cut triple cooked chips, empanadas and a selection of wine, prosecco, cocktails, or beer.

Londoners, if you’re seeking to experience an Argentinean approach to life in 2022, filled with friendship and fiesta, then look no further than Moo Cantina.
