Hotel Review: The Memoir Club – A boutique gem with personality and poise

Tucked discreetly away in one of London’s chicest enclaves, The Memoir Club is not merely a hotel—it is a love letter to intimacy, charm, and intelligent design. With its alluring blend of artistic flair and warm hospitality, this boutique property offers a refreshingly personal stay, anchored by a cast of outstanding staff who feel more like hosts than employees.

From the moment you arrive, you’re enveloped in a sense of calm sophistication. There’s no bustling check-in desk or sterile lobby here; instead, you’re greeted as a guest in a beautiful townhouse—a rare intimacy in the capital’s luxury scene. It is immediately apparent that The Memoir Club values connection. Staff members Ehab, Alex, and Yug exemplify this ethos. Each was gracious and generous with their time, seamlessly balancing professionalism with genuine warmth. Yug greeted us on arrival with a friendly smile and helpful guidance. Ehab, the charming manager, floated throughout the space with an effortless sense of care, making sure everything ran smoothly and that guests felt truly looked after.

The hotel’s aesthetic is part bohemian elegance, part literary salon. Velvet armchairs, curated bookshelves, statement lighting, and textured walls combine to create an atmosphere that is both luxurious and layered with story. Rooms are individually styled, with vintage details and tactile materials—imagine plush throws, freestanding bathtubs, and custom artworks in soft, golden lighting. Everything whispers indulgence, yet nothing feels overdone.

The heart of The Memoir Club, however, may well be Adeline, the in-house restaurant and bar that effortlessly bridges French finesse with British seasonality. Breakfast is a slow and sensual affair here—served until late, with everything from delicate house-made pastries to perfect poached eggs on sourdough. But it was dinner that truly left a mark.

We began with West Coast scallops served alongside Jerusalem artichokes, preserved lemon, and wild garlic—a beautifully composed dish that captured both land and sea with freshness and finesse. The harissa king prawns were a highlight: plump, smoky, and perfectly spiced, served with sourdough toast and a generous helping of smashed avocado. A dish that felt both comforting and confident.

For mains, the rump of Welsh lamb with broad beans was rich and tender, elevated by its simplicity and seasonal edge. The whole baked seabass, served with citrus butter, sea salt, olive oil, lemon thyme and fennel, was a triumph in restraint—cooked to perfection and packed with subtle aromatics that danced across the palate. It was the kind of meal that lingers in the memory long after the last bite.

Dessert brought more delight. We opted for the cheese plate—an elegant selection of British and French cheeses, served with crackers and fruit—and a decadent chocolate fondant. The fondant arrived warm and rich, its centre perfectly molten. Alex, who was looking after us in the restaurant with attentive charm, suggested we swap the standard vanilla ice cream for salted caramel. It was a masterstroke: the pairing elevated an already excellent dessert into something truly sublime.

Mornings at The Memoir Club begin slowly, often with the rustle of newspapers, the clink of fine china, and the smell of rich coffee drifting through the public spaces. Guests linger here. It’s the kind of place that invites reading, writing, or doing absolutely nothing—something the hotel gently encourages through its soft jazz playlist, sprawling sofas, and perfectly brewed espresso.

Though it’s situated in the heart of the city, The Memoir Club feels worlds away. It offers all the hallmarks of a luxury stay—sumptuous interiors, exemplary food, and considered service—but adds something harder to define: soul. It is a rare hotel that captures such a distinct sense of character and belonging.

Thanks to the unforgettable welcome from Ehab, Yug, and Alex, and the culinary magic of Adeline, The Memoir Clublingers like a favourite passage from a great novel—elegant, evocative, and impossible not to return to.
