Want to conceive easily after 40? 360 Fertility author Liberty Mills reveals all

Liberty Mills was told at 43 that she had a 0.7% chance of having another baby with her own eggs via IVF. She ended up beating all the odds when she conceived naturally after turning to integrative medicine and a complete lifestyle overhaul, giving birth just two weeks before her 45th birthday.

Since then she has helped numerous couples and single women conceive with her vast knowledge as a Certified Integrative Health Coach and has written a gloriously readable book called 360 Fertility.

The book reveals all about Liberty’s own fertility journey and offers extremely valuable information on how a low tox lifestyle with the right diet, supplements and lifestyle practices can result in significantly higher chances of conceiving in as little as 12 weeks.

7*Life caught up with Liberty when she visited London recently and had an insightful interview with her, discussing all things fertility, health and endocrine disrupting…

1. You were told IVF probably wouldnt work for you — what made you turn toward natural, non-toxic methods instead of giving up?

I didnt give up on IVF. What I realised was that I couldnt change the number of eggs I had, but I could work on improving the quality of my eggs and the health of my body as a host. My theory was to step away, practice different holistic and integrative methods, and then come back stronger to be given a chance.

I drew confidence from my own history with lupus. Doctors had told me that my symptoms wouldnt improve, only get worse, which, when I was only on prescribed medication, they did progressively get worse. But working with a functional medicine practitioner, the symptoms started to lessen in severity and frequency.  In time, I was able to come off all medication, my markers reversed, and I proved to myself that transformation was possible. So I decided to try the same approach with fertility. I gave myself three to four months,  and by the end of that time, I was pregnant, naturally at 44.

2. Can you walk us through the core pillars of your fertility protocol — what were the most transformative changes you made?

I believe bio-individuality is key: just as we all have unique fingerprints, we all have unique roadmaps that brought us here to where we are today. But there are commonalities that many of us can benefit from. For me, the most transformative pillars were:

– Dietary shifts: I stopped being pescatarian and began eating organic white meat and more white fish. I added organic bone broth daily, which was huge for me since I hadnt eaten chicken for over a decade.

– Removing toxins: I gave up alcohol and refined sugar (which was harder than giving up alcohol — sugar is everywhere, even in gluten-free products and packaged salads, some tooth pastes and supplements). I also cleared out my toxic burden: switching makeup, skincare, hair, and nail products to non-toxic alternatives.

– Lifestyle changes: I changed my sleep routine, going to bed and waking at consistent times. I exercised less; I was heavily into hardcore exercise,  cutting back from nine hours a week of high-impact sport and stick fighting to gentler practices like Kundalini yoga, Pilates, and some light weight training. Mentally, this was hard as I didn’t want to become weak; it was a huge fear of mine after the Lupus.

– Emotional work: I looked at where I was reacting rather than responding to stress. That inner awareness was as important as any dietary or physical change.  Here I started to practice daily Non-Sleep Deep Rest or Guyided Yoga Nidra.

3. Many women feel pressured by the biological clocknarrative. How did you navigate that fear, and what do you want others to know about age and fertility?

I encourage women to shift the focus from chronological age to biological age. As Dr. Nicola Conlon, a longevity scientist,  she works on the age reversal of your biology.  For example, you may be 28 but have the biology of a 50-year-old, or be 45 and biologically in your 30s. Its about testing, not guessing.

It’s called a BIOLOGICAL CLOCK, not a CHRONOLOGICAL CLOCK, but that is how we interpret the phrase and think of it as the number of candles on our cake. Get your biological markers checked, oxidative stress levels, mitochondrial function ( gut, uterine, vaginal and seminal) , and DNA damage markers. Those numbers tell you far more than the calendar does. For me, it was freeing to see fertility not as a simple countdown, but as something I could actively influence through lifestyle and environment.

4. Your book 360 Fertility emphasises non-toxic living — what are the most overlooked environmental stressors that can quietly sabotage fertility?

For women, especially, I believe its personal care products. Studies show that the average woman puts on anything from 168 to 515 chemicals on her body each day through makeup, tampons, deodorant, hair dye, sprays, and skincare etc.  The skin is the bodys largest organ, and up to 70% of what we put on it is absorbed. If your body is busy detoxing from chemicals, it cant focus on thriving or on reproduction.

Another overlooked factor is what I call Rushing Women Syndrome — a phrase originally coined by Dr. Libby Weaver. Women today are doing it all: careers, motherhood, home, and relationships. Were living in overdrive, often in masculine-mode energy, while still carrying female biology. That chronic stress depletes fertility.

I always say: strip it back. Simplify. Minimise chemicals, I lay out the biggest offender in my book, especially certain SPFs, which can be among the worst offenders. Once you know whats harmful, you can choose differently. And the choices you make dont just affect you; they lay the blueprint for your child’s health and their adult health.

5. Looking back, do you feel the medical system failed you — or did it push you toward something more empowering?

In some ways, it failed me,  but it also pushed me to establish my power. The NHS, for example, is structured as a management system rather than a care system. With Big Pharmas dominance creating the pill for the ill” model, and the burden of rising obesity, alcohol consumption, and smoking, the why” behind illness often gets lost.

Many doctors themselves feel failed by the system, which is why so many are leaving to set up private practices where they can truly honour the Hippocratic Oath. A third of my current clients are GPs, doctors or nurses who are looking to change themselves as their own system is not helping them.

6. What are your favourite non-endocrine-disrupting natural brands and why?

– Skin Diligent – Their tagline is endocrine disruptor free,” which I love. Their Vitamin C and Solid Hydration are favourites of mine; a little goes a long way.
Votarty Eye Gel – Light, effective, and gentle.
– Nibu Naturals – A woman-led brand created after she reversed lupus (thats how we met). I love their Glow Serum, Luna Glow highlighters, and bronzing products.
– Ilia – Their brow gel is excellent.
– Tropic – I
ve used their cleanser and serums for years.
– Fushi – Great for body oils, beautifully natural.
– Yoni – For tampons and menstrual care.

For me, I’m glad I had Lupus and infertility obstacles as it’s led me to be a healthier and happier and stronger person in body and mind who can now help others. I guess that falling down of the first domino has created something way bigger than me, and for that I will be forever grateful.
