Honeymooning in the Caribbean

Honeymoons offer newlyweds a spot of respite after a busy period of wedding planning. While some couples are opting for a ‘buddymoon’, others prefer sticking to an all-out romantic escape. You’ll be spoilt for choice with destinations, giving you plenty of choice.

Remember, your honeymoon is your chance to go all out with a once-in-a-lifetime trip. For this reason, the Caribbean is a popular choice. White sandy beaches, turquoise seas, and rich local culture create an unrivalled paradise.

Here’s what you need to know about making the most of a honeymoon in the Caribbean with your one and only.

There are endless romantic activities for couples in Barbados. Take a trip to Hunte’s Gardens, a place filled with a colourful array of trees, flowers, and foliage, or head to the coast and take a dip in the bright blue waters in Carlisle Bay. If you’re keen to get close to wildlife, you could go diving and swim amongst coral reefs and shipwrecks to uncover a whole new world beneath the surface. A real highlight includes a visit to the Animal Flower Cave & Restaurant, allowing you to dine in a stunning natural wonder.

To avoid rainfall, visit between December and April, which spans the dry season. However, the island can be visited without much hindrance at any time of year.

St Lucia

St Lucia promises the perfect romantic escape, with plenty of beach resorts that tap into that all-important sultry atmosphere for your honeymoon. The island has an obvious air of luxury, with boutique hotels and infinity pools aplenty.

Take part in scuba diving or enjoy the dining and shopping experiences that Castries and Rodney Bay offer. For a romantic stroll, head to the Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens to gaze at waterfalls and soak in mineral baths. There are endless adventure activities too, including zip lines and a trip to the Soufrière Volcano sulphur springs.

Although the temperature remains consistent all year round, the best time to visit is between December and May, which avoids the rainy and hurricane seasons.

Turks & Caicos

To experience some of the best white sandy beaches in the Caribbean, head to the archipelago of Turks and Caicos. There are several destinations for you to work through, allowing you to box off a variety of settings in one trip. If you’re looking for five-star luxury, this is the place to come. You could even indulge in a yacht charter to enjoy added privacy during your time here. Popular islands in Turks and Caicos include Providenciales and Grand Turk, as well as North Caicos and Middle Caicos.

To get the best of the glorious weather here, it’s recommended that you visit between April and June.

St John

St. John is a natural paradise and is one of the more untouched islands in the Caribbean. If you want to escape the crowds, this is the place to come.

Popular activities here include snorkelling to see the marine life (including turtles), hiking, and kayaking. For something more educational, you can visit the Annaberg Sugar Mill, where you can learn about the island’s history with slavery.

Generally, people visit St. John between December and April to avoid the rainier, more humid months where there are higher risks of hurricanes.
