Review: Wesleyan Chapel, Bolton Abbey – Boltholes Collection, Yorkshire

In our quest for serenity and respite from the urban chaos of London life, my wife and I, along with three wholesome shenanigan-loving friends, recently embarked on a journey to the heart of Yorkshire. Nestled within the picturesque Bolton Abbey Estate, we found the 19th Century Wesleyan Chapel , which as part of the illustrious Boltholes Collection was a true haven of luxury and tranquility. This idyllic retreat is suitable for up to eight guests and boasts four charming double bedrooms styled in a glorious farmhouse chic aesthetic.

As we stepped into the lovingly restored chapel, we were instantly captivated by the seamless blend of historic charm and modern comfort. The Wesleyan Chapel’s spacious kitchen, elegantly styled in a farmhouse aesthetic, stood as a testament to exquisite taste. Equipped with the finest amenities from renowned names such as Kitchenaid, Aga, and Villeroy and Boch, it was a culinary haven that set the stage for our gastronomic adventures.

Over the course of our four-night stay, we delighted in preparing wholesome Yorkshire-themed comfort food within this elegant home away from home. Afternoons were spent crafting delectable afternoon tea, complete with delicate finger sandwiches, a rather dashing Victoria sponge cake, freshly baked scones and a rather out of place kebab platter (hey, It’s my Persian blood, I can’t fight it) Evenings saw us congregating around the heartwarming log fire, the focal point of the expansive lounge area for Netflix movie nights and around the large wooden dining table to devour sumptuous roast chicken dinners, creamy pasta dishes, and indulgent pies.

The meticulously curated crockery and kitchen equipment elevated our culinary escapades, making each meal a culinary delight for the eyes as well as our tastebuds. The attention to detail reflected the essence of luxury that the Wesleyan Chapel exuded, ensuring our gastronomic journey was nothing short of exceptional.

Stepping outside into the expansive outdoor area, we were greeted by breathtaking views of the Yorkshire countryside. Comfortable outdoor furniture, a BBQ, and a hot tub provided the perfect setting for al fresco dining and relaxation. The picturesque vistas enhanced our evenings, transforming each moment into a memory to be cherished.

For moments of rejuvenation, we found solace in the nearby Devonshire Arms Hotel’s spa and gym facilities, which are complementary for guests of the Boltholes Collection. The spa offered an array of indulgent treatments to pamper the face, body and mind. My lovely friends treated me to a calming and expertly executed pregnancy massage, while they relished in invigorating body scrub spa treatments. The modern gym facilities and inviting indoor pool catered to our fitness needs, ensuring we stayed active and revived throughout our stay.

Throughout our time at the Wesleyan Chapel, the staff exhibited warmth and a genuine dedication to ensuring our stay was flawless. Their attentiveness and willingness to assist with any request further enhanced our experience, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts.

Our days were punctuated with invigorating nature walks around the estate. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Yorkshire, we found peace in the quietude of the landscape—a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of our city lives. The fresh air, the rustling leaves, and the sounds of freely flowing water were a soothing balm to our weary urban souls.

Our four-night sojourn at the Wesleyan Chapel was a truly enchanting experience that will forever remain etched in our memories. This retreat offered the perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and natural beauty, providing a much-needed respite from the hectic madness of daily London life. For anyone seeking a truly wholesome autumnal or festive getaway in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, I wholeheartedly recommend the glorious Wesleyan Chapel in all its regal glory.
