The five-star Berkeley Hotel in London’s Knightsbridge has always been known for its innovation: one of the first with air conditioning and among the first with double glazing. That may sound less than romantic but now it’s linked up with designer André Fu, a Hong Kong-born Cambridge University graduate, to create what the hotel calls immodestly “London’s new super suite”.
Fu says his approach to interior architecture combines the rigorous pursuit of new Asian sensitivities with clarity in space planning and keen attention to details of everyday life. His studio, he adds, has applied its vision of design to the fundamental qualities of space, proportion, light and lush materials, while his emotional spaces are created to inspire and indulge.
Today, Fu is applying his talents to what the Berkeley describes as “our most spacious residence”.
It “is as theatrical as it is intimate, simple in plan whilst layered in subtle details,” says the management. “This expansive two-bedroom suite features a luxurious family room and salon space, inviting kitchen and dining area, book-lined study, two bathrooms and the opportunity to connect to a third bedroom. Particular design highlights include a curated art collection, bathrooms clad in limestone and an island kitchen.”
This is, however, not just a space to admire, says the Berkeley, but a place to live, entertain, hold court – or hold back the waiting world. “From the sunny warmth of the salon to the calm intimacy of the study, this suite adapts to the way you live. We invite you to step inside and decide how you will make it your own.”
