Walking into the Shard of Glass and traveling up to the 32nd floor to the Oblix, my senses began to kick into overdrive as myself and my dining companions walked down a shadowy passage into the sleek interior of the bar and restaurant.

Instantly struck by the panoramic views of the city skyline, the Oblix is a hub of excitement. The energy could be felt radiating from the kitchen and the heart and soul of the restaurant – the spit roast – was at full throttle, with meat whirring away giving off mouth-watering aromas.

As we take our seats, it’s an effort to soak it all in and take the time to appreciate all that this London skyscraper has to offer. The floor-to-ceiling windows just add to the wow factor and in combination with the low lighting, it enhances the ambiance, providing a perfect frame to view the City of London in all its glory.

Attention to detail is what sets Rainer Becker’s Oblix apart from other fine dining establishments in the heart of London. Yes, the Oblix has an advantage – being situated on the 32nd floor of the tallest building in the United Kingdom, just setting foot into the Oblix is an experience in itself and offers a setting that other London restaurants just can’t compete with.

As we wait for our culinary experience to begin, drinks were ordered from the suave and stylish bar. In an arena like the Shard, it’s fitting that they have a range of elegant cocktails on offer, which just scream class and sophistication. Sipping these quality cocktails in the sumptuous surroundings, we discover the bar menu has been inspired by American history; people and events – geographical, historical and political.  The stories behind the drink concoctions are as enchanting as the drinks themselves, but as we’re chatting away to the friendly bar staff, our food order is brought to our table.

The Rotisserie chicken, skordalia and rosemary was mightily impressive and definitely showcased the best of the best of fine foods derived from European produce. Amazingly, after devouring every last morsel of food from our plates, there was still time for dessert, and we turned into kids in a candy shop as we went wild at the ice cream parlour.

The contemporary grill restaurant is certainly upscale in terms of style and delivers a sophisticated urban dining experience that oozes quality and passion and is evident throughout the Oblix.
