The Brown Cow: Fulham’s Sunday lunch gem

My wife and I visited The Brown Cow in Fulham for lunch recently along with our food-loving baby son Xavier, eager to experience the newly refurbished gastro pub. Having reopened on June 16th, this local favourite now boasts a fresh look and an all-day dining menu that promises to quench your thirst and satisfy your appetite from morning until night.

Upon arrival, we were immediately struck by the inviting ambiance of The Brown Cow. The pub’s window-lined frontage maximized the sunny weather, creating a bright and airy feel inside. The interior design features natural earthy tones, comfortable upholstered seating, and warm green hues, providing a cozy yet sophisticated setting. The dining area, with its wooden tables and intimate booth seating, felt perfect for a relaxed Sunday lunch.

We started our meal with two appetizers that set a high standard for the courses to follow. The buttermilk fried chicken with wedge salad was a perfect balance of crispy, tender chicken and fresh, crunchy salad. The marinated anchovies added a delightful saltiness, while the Caesar dressing and English Pecorino provided a creamy, tangy finish that tied the dish together beautifully.

Next, we enjoyed the za’atar crusted halloumi with beetroot hummus and summer crudités. The halloumi, coated in a fragrant za’atar crust, was perfectly grilled, and the beetroot hummus added a vibrant, earthy sweetness. The fresh summer crudités not only added colour to the plate but also a satisfying crunch.

For our main courses, we opted for two classic dishes: the sirloin of Angus beef and the Castlemead Farm roast chicken, both served with all the trimmings. The sirloin of Angus beef was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, with a rich, flavorful jus. The accompanying Yorkshire puddings were golden and crisp, and the roast potatoes were wonderfully crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

The Castlemead farm roast chicken was equally impressive. The chicken was succulent and full of flavour, complemented by the same excellent trimmings. The seasonal vegetables were cooked just right, maintaining their natural sweetness and crunch.

To finish, we shared the Brown Cow’s signature tiramisu. This dessert was nothing short of outstanding, with layers of rich mascarpone cream, espresso-soaked sponge, and a dusting of cocoa that provided the perfect bittersweet note to end our meal. It was light yet indulgent, and the perfect portion for sharing.

Throughout our lunch, the service was impeccable. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, enhancing our dining experience with their warm hospitality. The pub’s fluid and welcoming space made us feel right at home, whether we were enjoying our meal in the dining area or sipping cocktails at the bar. Speaking of cocktails, The Brown Cow’s 14-strong cocktail list offers a variety of creative and classic options, making it an ideal spot for evening drinks as well.

With its central Fulham location and all-day offering, The Brown Cow is set to become SW6’s new social hub. Whether you’re stopping by for a morning coffee, a light lunch, a hearty dinner, or just to relax with friends, The Brown Cow provides a versatile and inviting space for any occasion. The refurbishment has not only refreshed the pub’s look but has also elevated its menu, making it a must-visit destination for food lovers in the area.

Our Sunday lunch at The Brown Cow was a delightful experience from start to finish. The combination of a warm, convivial atmosphere, outstanding food, and excellent service makes it a standout choice for any meal. We look forward to returning and exploring more of their menu offerings, confident that The Brown Cow will continue to impress.
