Unwind and rejuvenate at the Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket

Trying to plough through all the enticing options to decide on the best Phuket resort can leave you yearning for a Thai massage before you even step foot in this lush land of sun, warm azure waters and exquisite food.

Oodles of luxury resorts line the various sandy beaches of Thailand’s holiday hotspot, so choosing one that’s perfect for you can be quite perplexing. But fret and perplex not, for I have been a regular mincer amongst the swanky hotels of this glorious region of the world, and can reveal that I may have just found my ideal home away from home. This enchanting Karon beach resort goes by the name of The Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket.

I stayed in this quaint yet palatial Green Globe Certified  resort with my luxury-loving other half and we were instantly impressed the moment we stepped our weary feet into the polished dark floors of the traditionally-styled lobby,

The luxurious decor of this magnificent greeting space juxtaposed with the retro Thai street carts outside, gave the resort a quirky, unique touch.

The carts are needed because the resort is impressively large, with numerous guestrooms, private villas and luxury residences – for those who can’t seem to tear themselves away from this serene slice of paradise, opting for much longer stays.

This idyllic Phuket resort boasts four swimming pools – some rather peaceful in nature for that all-important rest and relaxation and others more sprightly for getting in the frivolous holiday mood  – the main pool has a swim up bar and a slide so enticing, It made me want to shoo the children out of the way to have a turn.

As we were lucky enough to stay in one of the opulent villas of the resort, we could access an exclusive hidden azure blue pool – perfect for cooling down after a long day sweltering under the relentless Thai sun.

A mind, body and soul-soothing spa is hidden away amidst the greenery, offering traditional full body massages and complexion- smoothing facials using products made with natural ingredients.

Our villa was ludicrously spacious, styled in traditional dark mahogany, with heavy wooden blinds and an epic king-sized bed that seemed to beckon us to jump about on it in an excitable manner. Which we did. Excitedly.

Me looking smug in my private plunge pool

The bathroom was situated behind our bedroom and was vast in size, with a powerful shower cubicle and possibly one of the most humungous baths I have ever witnessed in my whole 7 years of hotel reviewdom.

At first I thought this bath was simply for show and couldn’t possibly be filled all the way up. But God loves a trier so away I filled, and within a good 20 minutes I was soaking away like Cleopatra in a skin-smoothing vat of asses milk (minus the milk and asses).

I actually yelped with glee when I was faced with our very own patio complete with private plunge pool, overlooking a scenic pond shrouded in exotic trees and various plants. On our first morning, we ordered breakfast to our villa and devoured syrupy pancakes and fresh fruit as we marvelled at the sound of birdsong in this private outdoor sanctuary.

We both became slightly enamoured with the food at this charming Karon beach resort and found the fine dining restaurant (complete with both indoor and outdoor seating areas) to be  a place where one’s Thai food dreams come true. We were spoiled with an opulent section of both western dishes and traditional Thai curries. I admittedly became addicted to Thai green curries during my 10 day holiday and have to admit, the curry I tried at the Movenpick was my favourite by far.

I’ve always said it’s the little touches that can make a hotel stand out from the rest and The Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket is a prime example of this essential attention to detail. At breakfast, guests are treated to healthy, antioxidant rich juice shots to set them up for the day (or help them detox after a messy night in Patong).

The renowned Swiss Mövenpick brand is known for its chocolate, so this gorgeous resort invites all guests to indulge in a free Chocolate Hour from 3.30 – 4.30pm. Be warned, you may need more than a few napkins after you’ve gorged on mini Swiss chocolates and spent the whole hour dipping fluffy choux pastry buns into endless streams of melted chocolate fondue.

Who said getting messy with chocolate was just for the children?…
